British-Jamaican Handbags, Designed by
Louise Meddar
Sunday Best
Every one of us has a childhood memory that never leaves. Mine is my mother getting ready for Sunday service in her very best. Last of all, she chose her bag. It finished the look and carried the pride of the day.
My parents came from Kingston, Jamaica to Birmingham, UK during the Windrush era, working tirelessly to build a life for my brother and me. My father was a cobbler. We didn't have much, but thanks to Dad, we always had good leather shoes for school and church. My mother was a seamstress, and her advice became my lifelong philosophy: “If you're going to have one, make it a good one, and look after it.”
When I moved to London in my early twenties, style became my language and Brixton became my home. Immersed in its unmatched creative energy, its vibrant
markets, and the rich history of the generation that came before me, I found my voice.
After losing my mother in 2012 and my father two years later, I kept returning to those Sunday mornings. I realised that my love of style, quality, and self expression was poured into me by the very hands that raised me.
Louise Meddar was born from that recognition a lineage carried forward into something of my own.
Designed to Be Carried with Pride
In Jamaican patois, TALAWA means “small but mighty.” It is the name of our current collection, and the defining energy behind everything we create: strength, confidence, and presence.
I design handbags with considered style, structural integrity, and details worth noticing. The TALAWA collection honours traditional British craftsmanship infused with Jamaican soul.
From work to brunch to an evening out, these pieces are designed to be reached for again and again. Whether it is the anchor of your wardrobe or a standout piece in your collection, it should feel beautifully made, considered in every detail, and carried with uncompromising pride.

A British-Jamaican Heritage House
I am proud to build Louise Meddar as a contemporary British-Jamaican heritage brand. As a Black female founder, I bring a history, a perspective, and a legacy of resilience to everything I design. This is just the beginning.
My mother chose her bag with pride. I hope you feel a collective sense of that pride whenever you carry yours.
Welcome to our world. Walk with purpose, embrace your strength, and always carry yourself with confidence.
